Canon Lens Calibration
Our Canon lens calibration service ensure’s your Canon camera body (s)and lenses are perfect match.
Canon refer to their calibration facility as Canon Micro Adjustment. This is a facility available on all high end amateur and pro spec Canon models (see list below for range of models that calibration is possible with).
Many older models only offer lens calibration at the front end / back end of a zoom.
However later models allow for calibration to be applied at both ends of a zoom lens ensuring a perfect match at either focal length (*)
If you have an extender amongst your lenses, then it is also advisable to have it calibrate. If there is an inconsistency with the lens you intend using it with, it is likely this is going to be increased with the use of a converter.
Once we have completed the Canon lens calibration will supply a full test report for each lens. If a zoom is used with a compatible camera body, a report will be supplied for both ends of the zoom range.
Note for earlier camera bodies that do not allow for calibration settings to be applied for both ends of a zoom the lens, we will still calibrate for both ends and the values noted accordingly. We will then either set a middle value between the two or to the value of the focal length the user intends using the most.
The MK 1 Canon Eos 7D only allows for one focal length calibration to be memorised within a zoom range. If used with an EF 70-200mm F2.8 the following would apply.
We will calibrate for both ends of the zoom i.e. 70mm and 200mm. If the values registered are + 2 at 70mm and + 8 for 200mm we will set the final calibration at +6 which is the middle point. Note that the + 6 applied at 70mm will not have a detrimental effect.
If the user intends using an extender with this lens, then this is classed as a new lens by the camera body. It would however be advisable to bias the calibrated value to that of the tele setting of the zoom as this is where any inconsistency will be most noticeable

Please note – Test results – Before & After may not initially show vast improvements. This is often due to the fact the lenses do not always resolve the optimum quality when used wide open as in the maximum aperture. Significantly sharper images can be obtained by stopping the lens to a smaller aperture
If during the test, we find this to be the case we will record images at smaller images to demonstrate that sharper images can be obtained by taking comparison shots before and after calibration.
We also offer a lens optimum test in which we can identify the best aperture in which to shoot at (often referred as the lens sweet spot) and the point at which diffraction occurs.
